Liuba Doga

Vocals teacher based in Cambridge

I have always been passionate about music & started singing publicly at the age of 5, instigating my friends to put shows on for our other friends & families. From then on, I knew I wanted to dedicate my life to singing. It was hard for my family to accept this, pushing me to more academic pursuits, so much so that I ran away at age 13 "to seek my fortune". My brother was studying drumming at a music college, so I went there & pleaded with them to take me & eventually, they allowed me, in an unofficial capacity, to sit in with their choir (which I eventually became director of). This was the first step on my quest for stardom! Quickly, I started to gain recognition, winning competitions in composition & songwriting both nationally & internationally; this brought me to the attention of several known Moldovan composers with whom I collaborated. During this time, whilst performing with the choir in France, I met Laurent Couson, a French composer famous for his work in cinema & director of the Symphony Orchestra of Paris. I collaborated with him at a concert in Moldova that I helped to organise & he composed a song for me & we performed on national, mainstream television. After winning 3rd prize in a national opera competition, I caught the eye of one of the judges (Mihai Munteanu), who happened to be the director of our most prestigious opera house & head of the vocal department of the best music academy in Moldova. He awarded me a 4-year scholarship in opera. This was a new level for me & stretched me to breaking point. Very harsh, very strict & very Russian! No room for error. During this time, it became clear that "I don't want to be an opera singer!" even though my teachers believed passionately that I could pursue a successful career in this field. I am, however, very grateful for the time I invested in this & was invested in me, as it gave me a solid foundation, discipline & technical ability, which I can apply to my vocal coaching & popular music career. After graduating from the academy, I travelled the national & international circuit, competing & performing at festivals in Romania, Ukraine (2x 1st prizes), Russia (1st prize), the Czech Republic, Holland, France, Spain & India! For the last ten years, I have successfully run my own business as a vocal coach & previous year (2017) was invited to represent my country in the Eurovision Song Contest with my song "One Thought Away". I wrote this song whilst on my spiritual path, moved by the writings of Brahma Kumaris, who teaches that anybody, including your God, is only a single thought away. I made it through to the semi-finals but, unfortunately, had to withdraw for health reasons. This was my first project with D/A Music & was recorded at their Regent Street London facility. I am inspired by artists such as Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Ariana Grande, and Alicia Keys, to name but a few. Their style moves me, and I hope to cultivate it. I am working on my first album, which affords little time for hobbies. Still, when I can, I enjoy dancing (I performed serpentine dance and a Bollywood presentation on national TV in India), fitness, walking in nature, travelling to different parts of the world, and discovering new cultures.
