August 7, 2023

Hannah joins the Rockphonix team this month to strengthen our vocal coaching team and also to provide a brand new service teaching saxophone. Hannah brings a great deal of experience and we're excited to have her onboard!

A few words from Hannah...

I am delighted to be joining the team at Rockphonix and excited to be bringing my vocation not just as a vocal coach but also as a Saxophone teacher to life. I first picked up a clarinet after seeing a group at my primary school's leaver service and falling in love with the sound and Saxophone followed suit quite quickly after that, it was clear that this was the start of a long journey in the music world for me.

I was lucky enough to have a fantastic teacher who really helped me explore all genres of music, and took me through a mixture of jazz, classical/traditional music and exams as well as encouraging performance based learning, eventually topped off with gaining my teaching diploma from Trinity College London when I was just 17, I immediately fell in love with teaching and was already a well seasoned performer at this point.

Music has always been a journey and a creative release for me and I strive for variation in everything I do, I have always tried to emanate this in my teaching style. There is room for all kinds of learning in my lessons, whether you are playing simply for challenge or enjoyment or you need grades and more traditional measures to help you achieve your goals. I have gained valuable experience in my 16 years of teaching from so many teaching environments; classical music schools, rock schools, private teaching, high school and primary, and I try to ensure that the amalgamation of this knowledge gives me a rich and open minded approach to my lessons.

I am proud to have had experience performing with numerous local bands, from hip hop and jazz to cuban/latin, cinematic soundscapes, often brass heavy with multiple members as well as having been a member of the English Symphony Orchestra for many years. I truly believe performance is a fantastic way to build confidence as a musician and open your tastes to new genres that you may not have otherwise considered and I aim to include this as encouragement in my lessons. I think consistently performing myself helps me to empathise with the challenges of being a musician and allows me to relate to my students and understand their goals on a better level.

Saxophone is such a versatile instrument and a beautiful addition to many genres of music, I feel this will bring some great new opportunities to the school and look forward to working with the team at Rockphonix to keep growing their student base and performance opportunities, as well as continuing to grow my own styles and skills as a teacher.
